With the popularity of DC comics, it’s no surprise that the CW television series ‘Stargirl’ became an instant hit when it premiered in May of 2020. The action-packed series was picked up for a third season several months before the second one aired, which proved how well it does in the ratings. As we eagerly wait for the third season to hit the small screen later this year, it’s easy to speculate about what the series has in store. Here are three things we can expect to see during the third season.
Plenty of Heart-Pounding Action
‘Stargirl’ is based on a comic book series by the same name. It was created by Geoff Johns, and the TV series stays true to the essence of the comic books. In true DC style, there will be plenty of action and adventure while Courtney Whitmore fights as Stargirl alongside her band of newly recruited teenage superheroes to defeat the evil Injustice Society of America.
An Overarching Theme
The first two seasons both featured overarching themes, so we can expect the third one to do the same. In the first season, we watched as Courtney embraced her new role as Stargirl and started to develop relationships with the other teenagers she recruits to recreate the Justice Society of America. The theme of the second season was watching Courtney come to terms with balancing teenage life with superherodom. We also saw her solidify relationships with loved ones until she would do anything to protect them, including sacrificing herself to save her stepfather, Pat Dugan, played by Luke Wilson. We can expect the upcoming season to explore a similar theme regarding identity.
Our Favorite Characters
While the Season Two Finale ended the storylines of a couple of beloved characters, we can expect most of the cast to reprise their roles in the third season. Brec Bassinger will return to lead the cast as Stargirl, and many of the fresh faces we have come to love as teenage superheroes will also be back. The cast includes some well-known names, too, including Amy Smart, who is back to play Barbara Whitmore.
Season Three of ‘Stargirl’ is expected to air later this year, although we don’t have an official premiere date yet. If you’re caught up on the first two seasons of the show, there’s plenty of time to binge all of the episodes again to get hyped about the new season.
